About Translating - Germany
GBO New Delhi’s Translation Programme, apart from promoting German literature in the region, also aims to support the community of German literary translators by engaging in capacity building for translators. GBO’s Programme has brought mentors and young translators together in an interactive set-up in order to provide a training platform to the translators, which otherwise is a solitary exercise. In partnership with Lectory, a unique e-classroom platform, which will enable this edition to be conducted as an e-classroom training Programme. Participants can join from any part of the world — all you need is a device with a good internet connection
The training is meant for early career (published/unpublished) literary translators in India, and will focus on translating from German to Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. The participants work on sample translation projects under the mentorship of some of the best translation experts in India and get an opportunity to network with the publishers in the region.
There is no application fee or admission fee applicable for this edition of the Translation Programme. The selected participants will be signing a binding agreement to complete this Programme. This Programme is focused on refining the art of translation and does not cater to technical translation.

Translation Grant Programme by Goethe Institut
The Goethe-Institut promotes the translation of German-language books from the areas of fiction, children’s and young people’s literature as well as non-fiction internationally.
TRANSLATIONS OF GERMAN BOOKS INTO A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Publishers abroad can apply to the Goethe-Institut for a translation of a self-selected German-language title. The Goethe-Institut’s grant Programme “Translations of German Books into Other Languages” supports non-German publishers in publishing German-language literature, with the aim of making accessible to non-German speaking readers current works of contemporary literature, literature for children and young people, important academic titles and non-fiction works.
The Programme serves cultural policy goals and is an important guiding instrument for cultural and educational foreign policy. The Programme is open for all languages.

Litrix.de introduces you to German-language new publications from the fields of fiction, non-fiction as well as children’s and youth books, which a jury of critics regularly selects. The Programme offers support for translation projects within the context of its cyclical three-year focus on a specific language and region.

Kamal has been translating literary texts mainly children’s literature in Hindi, German and English since 2003. Kamal is the only storyteller in India who translates the literary works and also performs in Hindi, Urdu and German. His major translations include, Mugnog Kinder, Spaghetti with Ketchup, An emperors message, Sammy, Love is in the air, Chameli, Aaina, Mandap, Mistake, Catastrophe and Kabuliwaala. Kamal Pruthi is counted among the top five trendsetting and most renowned performance storytellers of India. A recipient of Polska theatre fellowship from Poland in 2015 as the distinguished theatre practitioners of the world, he also received a South Asian fellowship for his excellence in the field of Arts management in 2014. In 2006 Pruthi was awarded Goethe Scholarship for young and emerging theatre practitioners of the world to get trained in Germany. Kamal , who is popularly known as Kabuliwala, started his theatrical journey 17 years ago in Delhi in 1999 and got trained in acting and physical theatre in Berlin, NSD’s TIE Company (97′) and at Sri Ram Centre for Performing arts in Delhi in the years 2001-03. Founder of “Museum Theatre Company” in 2012, Kamal is a guest faculty on Storytelling at several Delhi Colleges, and teaches Drama, storytelling and creative writing to students, teachers, parents and corporate employees in Schools, NGOs and MNCs respectively. As a linguist performer, he has performed in 6 languages that are Hindi, Urdu, German, Punjabi, English, and Kannada. Appeared in more than 50 interviews in all major newspapers of India, Afghanistan and Dubai, Kamal is the only storyteller in India who also performs in German.

The Frankfurt International Translators Programme takes place between 14-17 October 2019. The Frankfurt International Translators Programme is aimed at international literary and non-fiction translators translating from the German language. Anya Malhotra from India is one of the other participants of the Translators Programme. Anya Malhotra is an AIIC interpreter and has been working as a freelance translator for close to 25 years.
